Finding yourself in a slump? Can’t get motivated to start moving again or making healthier choices?
The end of winter is well known for being a tough time to get and stay on track. After the holidays are over we find ourselves still cold and dark and wanting to stay inside in our jammies until the temperature is above 50.
If you’re getting sick of feeling the way you do and want to start making changes before springtime is officially here, we have tips to get you out of your winter slump!
-
Find a workout buddy. Whether it’s your partner, a friend, or a fellow gym member… finding another person you can stay accountable with can go a long way! Try making a schedule together and get creative with incentives to stay on track.
-
Start a challenge. Piggybacking off the above, starting a challenge with a group of friends can inspire you to get active again. You can keep it as simple as working out 3 days a week or even add in a nutrition component!
-
Sign up for a race/competition. Whether it be a 5k, a weightlifting meet, a CrossFit competition or anything in between… having a specific event to prepare for can be motivating! The Open being right around the corner might be a great kickstart for you to get back into consistent exercise.
-
Get a smartwatch. Having a watch that tracks your movement can help you see the importance of having more movement in your life! Having the data right in front of your face after a day at your desk may be just what you need to feel compelled to get to the gym. You don’t have to go too fancy; a lot of the basic fitbit and garmin watches work just fine!
-
Listen to good music / podcasts. What we put in our mind can have a big influence on what we do every day. Listening to music that pumps us up or podcasts that inspire us can be a way to light a fire under you!
-
Get outside. We know it’s cold and you may not want to step foot outside! But the fact is that fresh air can help invigorate and inspire us; even if it’s just for 5 minutes!
-
Prepare your gear. If you workout in the morning, this may mean putting out your workout clothes the night before. If you workout in the evening, it might mean bringing your workout clothes to work. Regardless, having everything ready to go means one less decision you need to make when it’s go time.
-
Try a new supplement, get some new workout gear. We’re not big on encouraging people to take things like pre workout or telling them they need a bunch of fancy gear. But sometimes trying something new or having a sweet near pair of leggings can make things feel fresh.
