See pictures of CrossFit Games athletes and think ‘I’m NOT trying to look like that’?
Quite often this fear of getting bulky holds people back from lifting weights.
We get it! Most join a gym because they want to fit in to their clothes, have more energy, and get that ‘toned’ look; not because they want to intimidate their enemies.
We’re here to tell you: It’s HARD to put on a lot of muscle mass.
People that are able to achieve this often put a large amount of time and effort in to doing so. For those in the CrossFit games, their entire LIVES are centered around fitness. They train for multiple hours a day, are centering their diet around performance, and aren’t focused much on aesthetics. Not to mention, many of the photos you’re seeing are in the middle of a workout – when they have a major pump going on!
For those that aren’t Games athletes but still have this look: 9 time out of 10 it is their goal to look this way (and it doesn’t happen over night) It can take years of many hours, hard work, consistency, and a LOT of food to get there.
What you may not know: There are many benefits to lifting weights! Such as:
-
Lifting weights helps shape your body, not make it bigger. Lean, defined muscles are muscles that are being worked!
-
Those with high lean muscle mass (which is achieved by lifting weights) burn more calories at rest.
-
Stronger muscles, tendons and ligaments lead to more stable joints and overall movement.
-
Lifting weights has tremendous health benefits, including improved heart health!
