I think we can all agree: Food is getting expensive!
If you’re like us, you might be looking for ways to keep the grocery store as budget friendly as possible. That’s why we wanted to remind you that frozen fruits and vegetables are a great option.
If you’re short on time, on a budget, or sick of wasting food… Try out the frozen food isle!
Frozen veggies are picked at their peak in terms of freshness and nutrients, so there’s no need to avoid them! Here’s some tips to get the most out of your frozen friends:
- Frozen berries are delicious as a dessert with a little coconut cool whip or in a smoothie. It’s also easy for fresh berries to get moldy, so frozen is a great option.
- If you’re making a dish that can handle a little extra moisture (think: soups, sauces, and curries), you can add those veggies straight from the freezer to the pot. The same goes for when you’re adding veggies to the blender for smoothies.
- Frozen spinach is one vegetable that has a tendency to retain a ton of excess water. Before adding thawed spinach to a recipe, it’s also a good idea to press out as much liquid as possible.
- Microwaving and steaming are not the only ways to get those frozen veggies on the dinner table. You can also roast, air fry or pan fry them and still get those irresistibly crispy, charred edges you get with fresh veggies. (Use cooking oil, preheat the baking sheet or pan, and turn the oven temp up extra high to get some crisp!) Just be sure not to cook too long! You can also experiment with cooking straight from the bag or thawing first.
- If you’re picky on texture, try blending fresh & frozen.
*Quick tip: Don’t microwave straight from the bag. Microwaving plastic isn’t advised, so always place in a separate container (even if it says microwavable)
